Local Lawyer’s Gridiron Returning to Rep Stage in August

GridironLogoThe Arkansas Repertory Theatre is thrilled to announce that more than 80 lawyers, judges and legal professionals will once again take The Rep stage with their production of Gridiron 2016: Bake America’s Cake Again.  The biennial musical production spoofing Arkansas and national politics and people will run Aug. 2-6.  Opening night on Tuesday, Aug. 2 will feature a reception with lite bites and complimentary wine and beer before the curtain at 8 p.m.  Four shows will follow on Wednesday, Aug. 3 (7 p.m.), Thursday Aug. 4 (7 p.m.), Friday, Aug. 5 (8 p.m.) and Saturday, Aug. 6 (8 p.m.).

Gridiron traces its origins back to 1916 when a few theatrically inclined lawyers banded together to write and perform a Vaudevillian-style luncheon show.  The show has been a success and this year celebrates its 100th Anniversary.

“We believe that our Gridiron may be the longest running production of its kind in the nation,” said Judge Mary Spencer McGowan, Gridiron’s producer for 20 years.  “Gridiron has evolved over the years from a male-only cast performing at luncheons at the Marion Hotel to a full-fledged professional production at The Rep with Director Jana Beard and Musical Director Lori Isner.”
